Arthur Allsop was brought up in the mining village of Codnor in Derbyshire, the son of a coal miner and one of eight children. On leaving school he served an apprenticeship in carpentry and joinery and in the mid nineteen sixties at the age of twenty-two travelled the world extensively.
On returning to the UK he resumed his career and also discovered a love of writing – poetry and short stories. Following publication of two poems Arthur was soon creating new characters for his children’s books, Boz and the Bumblebees and in the same genre, The Magic Barrel stories (the adventures of the musical Toby Jugs with Bernard and Benny) All the illustrations are Arthur’s work..
Arthur moved from Derbyshire to Yorkshire in 2014 and is now resident in Addingham where he pursues his interest in writing, the environment and the arts and enjoys walking in the beautiful surrounding countryside.
